Jersey Shore GAA – June Update

Things have been exciting and busy for the Jersey Shore GAA. Our Men’s Hurling Club is up and running and ready for their first official season meet this Saturday, June 13th 11am and 3pm up at Rockland’s Field. The Men’s team is associated with the NY GAA Junior B Championship, they will be competing against Hoboken Guards, Le Cheile GAA and Rockland GAA. The other regular season matches will be held on June 28th and July 19th with Semi Final and Final match dates to be determined.

The guys played in a 7-a-side tournament up at Gaelic Park a few weeks back and came home with much confidence after winning three out of five matches. They are practicing up at Maclearie Park on Monday & Wednesdays at 6pm, please come on our and give it a go (Anyone age 16 and up may participate).

Kids – we are officially affiliated across the board now with the NYGAA.   We were waiting on this for insurance! We are looking to have children’s teams compete in the fall season which runs Sept til Thanksgiving time as well as host a large scale tournament in coordination with the NJ Irish Festival in Spring Lake on September 19th so please save the date!

We are looking for commitments from coaches to coordinate a regular practice at least once a week for the kids.  We can spread practice around Monmouth County. We can use Maclearie Park on Tuesday evenings.  We can also hold practice at Keansburg & Highlands area. Monmouth County Parks has also been cooperative and we are awaiting on field assignment – this will likely be used for regular season matches in the Fall with other NY GAA teams. Commitment is at least half the games have to be on our home field.  The Minor Board (Kids level) has a nice social community. The NYGAA Tradition after matches is for the home team hosts a BBQ/Picnic for the away team. Families hang out at park for the day.

We are looking to host a week long camp in July for the kids to prep them for the Fall Season.

We will also be participating in Belmar Recreation Summer Camp program in August for the kids signed up in their regular programing.  This will be a fantastic opportunity for kids to get an intro to GAA ahead of the Fall season!

Main Diary Dates

Next Wednesday, June 17th, at Maclearie Park, Belmar we will be hosting Michael Sullivan the NY GAA Hurling Development Officer.  His schedule for the evening will be:

A back up location in the event of poor weather is also being sought, please watch facebook for an update on this!

Summer Fundraiser –  To be planned, if anyone interested in helping out or joining a committee to put together? We need to raise funds as we are a non profit Org and are trying our best to offer these sports free of charge to the children!

Also Congratulations in order for Hoboken Guard/Manhattan Gael Camogie Player and great friend to JSGAA – Sophie Colgan (She played in Camogie Match last September here in Sea Girt) for making it through to the finals representing NY/NJ in the Rose of Tralee!  We will all be routing for her at the finals!
